Weekly Watch Focus: Victory in Mosul

Friday, July 14, 2017—"So David inquired of the Lord, saying, 'Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?' And He answered him, 'Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all'” (1 Sam. 30:8).

This week, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over ISIS in Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city. Since ISIS captured Mosul in 2014, we have been praying in the Watch for the defeat of this radical terrorist group which has massacred multiple thousands of innocent civilians in their conquest, particularly targeting Christians, Yazidis, Kurds, and others. We thank the Lord that the Iraqi forces, with the help of the U.S. and other Western allies, has been able to recapture Mosul and set the population free from the horrible rule of ISIS. This victory is the last major stronghold in Iraq. As we thank the Lord for this victory, pray for the complete eradication of ISIS in Iraq and for the ongoing defeat of ISIS in Syria. Pray that freedom would return to these ancient lands often mentioned in the Bible and early church history.
