The Name

May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; Psalm 20:1

Throughout our Bible, God reveals Himself in names to men at significant moments in their lives. The name was a demonstration of God acting in the event. Before Moses at the burning bush, God revealed Himself as “I Am.” But what Moses heard was, “Eyeh Asher Eyeh.” In his native tongue, “I will be there how-so-ever I will be there.” As the event of Passover unfolds in Israel’s deliverance, God acts in powerful and diverse miracles in Egypt, each one a different strike until at last the Pharaoh’s heart was bent to let God’s people go.

When David ran toward Goliath, the trusted shepherd’s sling fitted with a chosen stone whirling above his head, David shouted, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied!” (1 Samuel 17:45). Years of long night watches defending his father’s sheep had formed David’s experiential relationship of faith and trust. He had killed wild beasts, sometimes in man against beast combat. David did not just mouth the name of God. He lived in intimate knowledge of the One whose name he invoked.

God reveals His name in order to impart living truth into the hearts of those He reveals Himself to. It’s not so we can write it down and have a Bible study. It’s so we get the real event of who God is down in the very foundation of who we are. It becomes our personal possession, the the foundational event of all we think, say, and do. All the revealed names of God culminate in the event of the incarnation. God told Mary to name her baby “Immanuel, God with us.”

The whole world needs a revelation of His name today.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13).

Jesus, as we approach the season of Passover, we look forward to the resurrection celebration of Easter. Lamb of God, a day will come when every knee bows and every tongue confesses, “Jesus is Lord.”  We ask for the advent of that today around the world. We ask that this pandemic be brought to bow under Your feet. Your Name is higher, stronger, and our hope is in You. We lift up Your name and declare Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed. Let Your glory be seen among the nations. Lift up Your right hand and set the nations free from this demonic stronghold of disease and death.

We pray today for every person affected with coronavirus. Hear our prayer. Deliver us from this invisible devouring enemy. Preserve life and restore bodies for Your glory. We pray again for our leaders, President Trump, Vice President Pence, and their advisors and allies. Jesus, lead them in Your wisdom and truth. Give breakthroughs and supernatural grace lead this battle and come to victory. We pray for researchers, doctors, nurses, our military, and the many first responders serving and preserving the afflicted. We pray for the family members of each one. Come, Lord Jesus, in this hour in mercy and love. Touch the nations in fresh visitation by Your Spirit. We praise You for Your healing grace. We rejoice in the good news of Your salvation today.

Holy Spirit, come! Renew the face of the earth!

We are confident and covering you and yours. Send your prayer requests to us at hotline@chavdaministries.org. Join us online for the Watch of the Lord, and see you ONLINE this Sunday at 10 a.m.
