I Will Sing!

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
    Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
    King of the nations.
Who will not fear you, Lord,
    and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
    and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
(Revelation 15:3-4)

For centuries the Church has idealized the song of Moses and the Lamb. The final anthem of the cosmos as it is returned to the governance of its rightful Potentate breaks out in celebration and fulfillment of hope and promise for man and for creation as the Lamb of God, in triumph over all other powers, comes to set things right. Every bible narrative leads us to this refrain. That is why the church alone sustains and upholds the world’s continued existence until Christ comes. As salt and leaven, the church alone possesses true knowledge as it adheres to abject truth: God who created the world has entered the world to redeem it from corruption and will rule from His seat above all other authorities until He has put all things under His feet (1 Cor. 15:25-28).

The psalmist prophecies and instructs world rulers to submit themselves to wisdom and pay homage to the Son whom God has ordained over them.

“I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”
Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
(Psalm 2:7-12)

There is no better word for a people, a nation, or a world in social crisis and political chaos than this Word. That human society would seek for “justice” or “truth” within itself is a faulty proposition. The One who challenged the rich young ruler, who shown light on the condemnation of a woman found in adultery, who released men from the domination of demons, who taught fishermen how to fish better, fed a multitude with a few fish, who called children to himself, refused the lure of this world, contradicted his accusers with a word, and ultimately gave his own life as a legal exchange for all who cannot save themselves, is the only source of morality, and therefore, justice.

That is the reason the church sings. In every season, down through the ages, in every nation, and circumstance, a song rises from the heart of the church prophesying of good fulfilled, proclaiming that things come into order, promising deliverance from evil, and announcing victory over death. The first verse is from Moses as Pharaoh’s army is being swallowed behind him in the sea:

“The Lord is my strength and my defense;
    he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
    my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a warrior;
    the Lord is his name.
Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
    he has hurled into the sea.
The best of Pharaoh’s officers
    are drowned in the Red Sea.
The deep waters have covered them;
    they sank to the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, Lord,
    was majestic in power.
Your right hand, Lord,
    shattered the enemy.” — Exodus 15

The refrain is sung by the whole redeemed creation gathered at the throne of its Sovereign as destructive world powers and dark principalities are destroyed. “The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power” (Rev. 15:8). The servants of God, distressed over unrighteousness in the world, oppressed by wickedness set against them and their children, take up this song on the earth and look for the brightness of His rising. That is why we sing!

We celebrate today the God of the turnaround. We pray for this current administration and congressional leaders. We ask for an intervention. We pray that light would intervene into the darkness. We bind the spirit of witchcraft and Jezebel trying to subvert and cause the truth to bow to the lie. We plead the power of the blood of Jesus and ask for a loosing of angels in this nation in the life, family, work, and way of every believer. Revive Your church, stand us up on our feet. God, we ask for the Spirit of the Lord be poured out in great revival.

With the power and backing of the Holy Spirit, we take a stand as watchmen on the wall. In every place where the enemy has ordained evil in our nation, we declare the Lord is ordaining for His good. As we prepare to enter into the Passover season, we take encouragement, and a refreshing infilling of the Holy Spirit for wisdom, courage, and favor from the Lord. Lord, anoint us both to know and to speak. Come Holy Spirit!

Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Isaiah 58:8, “Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.”
